Multicultural Home Support Program
The Multicultural Home Support Programme provides
culturally appropriate and sensitive services that promote
the dignity and contribution of older people and assist them
to maintain their independence and participate in community
life.
A
wide range of services is provided through the Commonwealth
Department of Health and Ageing, Community
Aged Care Packages
(CACP) to people over 65 years of age, living in the Adelaide
metropolitan area from minority Non-English Speaking Backgrounds
who have long-term needs.
The Multicultural Home Support Programme also works in partnership
with a number of minority communities and promotes their
involvement in the planning and development of the Program.
The Multicultural Home Support Programme also supports a
number of people through the Department for the Ageing HACC,
(Home and Community Care) packages for showering
and social support.
This program was negotiated and
designed by UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide in conjunction
with representatives of the minority communities and ethnic
community organisations during 1994/95 and was accepted
for funding by Department Health and Family Services December
1995 to commence July 1996.
Clients
Older people of non-English speaking backgrounds who belong to
minority communities in South Australia and who require support
to enable them to stay in their own homes and who prefer this
support to be provided in a culturally appropriate manner.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a Community
Aged Care Package clients must have been assessed by the
Aged Care
Assessment Team(ACAT) as
eligible for Low Care support and be in need of assistance
to live independently in the community. Clients may be eligible
to receive H.A.C.C.(Home and Community Care) services without
an ACAT assessment.
