Multicultural Home Support Program

The Multicultural Home Support Programme provides culturally appropriate and sensitive services that promote the dignity and contribution of older people and assist them to maintain their independence and participate in community life.

A wide range of services is provided through the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, Community Aged Care Packages (CACP) to people over 65 years of age, living in the Adelaide metropolitan area from minority Non-English Speaking Backgrounds who have long-term needs. The Multicultural Home Support Programme also works in partnership with a number of minority communities and promotes their involvement in the planning and development of the Program.

The Multicultural Home Support Programme also supports a number of people through the Department for the Ageing HACC, (Home and Community Care) packages for showering and social support.

This program was negotiated and designed by UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide in conjunction with representatives of the minority communities and ethnic community organisations during 1994/95 and was accepted for funding by Department Health and Family Services December 1995 to commence July 1996.
