Homelink SA is committed to providing quality
home based accommodation for young adolescents and adults with
an intellectual disability
and
who are unable to live with, or wish to live independently
from their birth family.
Homelink also aims to ensure that people
have the opportunity to develop greater independence and community
living skills through skilled support provided by Homelink carers
who share their home, family and friendship.
This
program commenced in July 1999, in collaboration with Disability
SA (formerly I.D.S.C).
The person with a
disability receives help with daily living in a way that maximises
their opportunities for independence and development of skills.
Support may include:
personal care
assistance with
decision making
meal preparation
accessing
the community
pursuing recreational
interests.
The service can be on a respite,
shared care and full time basis and individuals
with high to
low support
needs are
eligible, depending on funding
approved through the referring agency and carer availaibity.
The
person who has a disability lives with a person or family,
who provides the support required to ensure that the person
has access to an active life in the community.
The person who provides this support is a paid contractor, whose
remuneration is in line with the level of support needed.
Support may include personal care, or assistance with decision
making, meal preparation etc. and may range from simply providing
home board, through to intensive assistance.
