North
East Networks
North East Networks was established
to address the social isolation that many people experience
after their rehabilitation from an acquired brain injury.
North East Networks uses a community development
approach to assist people who have an acquired brain injury
to re-establish
their social networks or to establish new ones. People who
have an acquired brain injury are referred to the Network through
Brain Injury Options Coordination.
Individuals are supported
to participate in Network functions and to be involved in
their local community. The members determine the direction
of the
network.
Various recreational, educational and community volunteer
activities are organised and members select the activity that
interests
them. Coordinators assist members to implement the decisions
of the network and limited support worker assistance is available.
Additional volunteers are always needed and welcomed.
NE Networks commenced early in 1998, involving
people who live in the north eastern suburbs of Adelaide.
Network Members
Anyone
can be involved with the NE Networks.
People who have an acquired brain injury, and who are referred
to the network through Brain Injury Options Co-ordination may
be supported to attend network functions, and to be involved
in their community volunteer projects.

How does it work?
The direction of the network, and what sort of things it gets
involved in, is determined by the members involved.
Various recreational, educational and community volunteer activities
are organised, and are attended by any member who is interested
in that activity. Support to be involved, is provided where necessary.
Computer classes, art classes, walking groups, graffiti cleaning,
are some of the interests of the current members.
A co-ordinator carries out the decisions of the network members,
and support workers can provide support where needed.
