Goodwill

Goodwill Stores generate income for the many services of UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide through the sale of quality recycled and new goods.

Goodwill has come a long way since its original store opened in Pitt Street in 1952. The Goodwill warehouse was opened at Dry Creek in 1979 and donated goods could be sorted, cleaned and packed for distribution to Goodwill Stores.

Customers

All people are welcome to shop at Goodwill. In recent years, a broader range of customers from all walks of life have chosen to buy goods from our stores. Students and others are turning recycled clothing into an ’art form’.

Material AssistanceGoodwill makes fashion sense

This year Goodwill will provide many thousands of dollars worth of goods in free welfare relief to disadvantaged people through Byron Place Community Centre, UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide Financial Counselling and other associated Missions.

The warehouse provides the Goodwill stores with quality garments at low prices. We are a part of 'save the environment' as our total business is recycled clothing. We also donate to RSPCA (dog blankets for free).

Customers with vouchers can obtain clothing in pleasant surroundings with dignity and without prejudice.

Stores

Goodwill Stores need more quality donations (all clean items are acceptable). In particular, there is always a demand for larger sized ladies wear, mens wear and brand name merchandise.

Men’s and children’s clothing are always needed, as are linen and blankets.

The stores also display goods made by the Doll & Craft centre which include restored dolls, knitted children’s clothing and other goods.

The Adelaide Store (Hindley Street) specialises in Indian, 70’s and retro clothing. All stores stock a complete range of quality affordable clothing.

Doll & Craft Centre

Volunteers at the Doll & Craft Centre at Williamson Hall, Payneham Road Uniting Church, 341 Payneham Road, Marden, restore dolls and reclothe them as well as make a range of children’s and baby clothing. Most attend the group weekly, but others who are unable, work from their homes and supply knitted items and crafts.

The goods made by the group are sold exclusively in the Goodwill Stores and yield extra income for UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide.

The group has also been in operation since 1952 and is an important part of the UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide history.

News Story

So that Uniting Care Wesley Adelaide has plenty of warm winter clothing to give South Australians in need of assistance, we would love to hear from manufacturers or their representatives with surplus stock.

Goodwill is not in direct competition with mainstream retailers so it often makes sense for a manufacturer to make use of Goodwill's distribution networks.
