Launch
of Cans (and Toys) for Christmas
Jane Reilly, Lisa McAskill, Kym Dillon, Grant Cameron and others will be launching the 2002 Cans (and toys) for Christmas appeal – with Pizza. These and other celebrities will be joining with long term ‘Cans for Christmas’ supporter, Pizza Hut, to make Pizzas from the sorts of ingredients that Adelaide Central Mission needs, in cans, for Christmas hampers.
The
scary thing is that Andrew Jarman will be MC and judge! The ‘naked
chef’ he ain’t! So the
rules for judging the celebrity Pizza makers are not clear, but it
is known that a Warne type leg spin action to toss the pizza bases
will score well as will “quick hands” with the toppings.
This
year, Maughan Church and Adelaide Central Mission expect to put together
2000 hampers and distribute over 1000 toys. An increase of 10% on
last years efforts, a reflection of the increasing number of families
that are struggling to make ends meet.
“Our
aim is to make sure that every family in South Australia has the
opportunity to enjoy Christmas” said Chrissie Mainprize, events Coordinator. “so
we are launching ‘Cans for Christmas’, with a bit of fun, which we
hope translates into willingness of the SA public to help us by donating
cans at IGA Supermarket, leaving toys at Target Centrepoint or donating
money at Bank SA metropolitan branches and ChemMart stores”.
