Christmas
cheer for South Australian battlers from UnitingCare Christmas
Gift Appeal
The
Army has just trucked in hundreds of Christmas hampers to 10 Pitt
Street, as volunteers at Adelaide Central Mission prepare to help
more than 1200 low-income South Australian families doing it tough
this Christmas.
Volunteers
like 79 year old Trudi Bennes and Robin Tregenza, from Maughan
Uniting Church, work tirelessly at Adelaide Central Mission during
the lead
up to Christmas to ensure no family goes without. “ We
don’t turn away anyone who needs help”, said Denise Rowe, Business
Development Manager with Adelaide Central Mission.
In
PORT PIRIE, SA, hundreds of gifts donated at Target Stores in Melbourne
will arrive at UnitingCare’s Port
Pirie Mission TODAY. (17th December) “These
extra gifts will make it possible for us to provide more assistance
to local families facing tough times this Christmas”, said Alison
Whish, Director of Port Pirie Mission.
Port
Adelaide Central Mission’s family centre is also actively creating
Christmas Cheer and Wesley Uniting Mission are flat out packing
hampers and distributing toys.
The
four South Australian Missions are part of UnitingCare. "Generally,
our UnitingCare agencies
have received just a third of the gifts they are hoping for. In
some places, the total is less than a third” said Mariska Meldrum,
National Appeal Coordinator. UnitingCare,
one of Australia’s largest providers of community services, is planning
to deliver 100,000 gifts nation-wide. “Get down to your local Target
store, grab a gift tag off the tree at the entrance, and choose a
suitable gift”, appealed Denise Rowe
