Lifeline
Adelaide was the second Lifeline in the world, after Rev Sir
Alan Walker founded Lifeline in Sydney at the Wesley Central
Mission in 1963. In Adelaide, Lifeline began as a joint project
of UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide (formerly the Adelaide
Central Mission) and the Mental Health Association. It is now
operated
solely
by
UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide.
A Youth Line
was operated for a short time, and Trouble Teams used to go
out to assist people in Crisis.
Adelaide
Lifeline is a nationally recognised and long established community
service. It provides a 24 Hour telephone counselling service
365 days a year.
In any sector of the community people can become distressed
and isolated by such issues as grief and loss, breakdown of
relationships, unemployment, drug and alcohol dependency and
domestic violence.
For many, Lifeline is their only avenue of support.
