Welcome to the Bfriend SSA and Trans Parent Pages!

flying foxWe have included these pages as part of the website because we recognize the need for information and support for same-sex attracted and transgender parents. It can also be a challenging time for children, and much of this information will be able to help support kids of queer parents. We understand that being a same-sex attracted or transgender parent means that there will be dynamics and issues specific to our family that we may experience and encounter. We see many people who have children as a result of previous heterosexual relationships, and we recognize that this may bring with it many challenges. We also celebrate the journey people embark upon as they redefine their families. Sometimes it can feel as though there's no support available and that it's too hard to access information that can support us and our families. Whether you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or are questioning your sexuality or gender identity, we hope there will be some information here that may be of use to you and your family.

Some of the links we have here will take you to articles and sites presenting very in-depth information for and about queer parents and their kids. Other links will offer you more brief information and discussions about queer families. Some of these articles and sites will offer you information gained from research into same-sex and transgender parenting and families, others will offer specific tips on how to come out to your kids or some of the questions children may ask. There is information about various legal issues queer families may encounter in terms of relationship recognition and the role of non-biological parents, there is information on step and blended families that offers practical advice, and there is information on some issues relating to using donor sperm. tug of war

The information has been separated into the sections you'll see links to in the rainbow above. It's worth having a look at each of the sections as there is some overlap between them. Some sections don't have many links provided, but if you're after more information on any of these topics then go to the booklists link to find further resources. As you'll see there is a brief description for each link provided, so you should be able to access areas of interest quite easily.

You can always contact us here at Bfriend if there are any issues you wish to discuss or you need help finding information. We welcome feedback or any resources you have found thatwould be good for us to know about.
