The Bfriend CALD Guide

The Bfriend Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Guide A ‘best practice’ guide  for working with CALD people who are same sex attracted, gay, lesbian, bisexual and / or transgendered.

“The barriers that many GLBTIQ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender/transsexual, intersex & queer) people face are significant. They are often shunned by their own families and communities, only then to discover that racism and intolerance is often as rampant within the gay and lesbian community as it is within the broader community.”

Inaugural Australian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer Multicultural Conference (AGMC)

Working with people from CALD backgrounds who are identifying as same sex attracted or transgender, calls for particular sensitivity and care. Honouring cultural background and what relationship culture has to sexuality is important work. We hope that this Web Page will be useful in guiding workers. Many thanks to Martine Hawkes for her work and persistence in developing this page.
